>> i'm frank mallicoat. 5:00 on a monday and if you are heading out on the road this morning, be aware that the view through the windshield could be a little murky. >> heavy fog is causing poor visibility in much of the bay area. anne makovec is in san francisco near the bay bridge to give us a look at conditions there and we can still see the fog behind you. >> it is really bad out here. you know, we talk about fog. a lot of mornings, especially at this hour, but today, it really is exceptionally foggy. you can see the bay bridge behind me. you can barely see it. you can see some of the lights shrouded in fog. we took pictures a little bit earlier at the bay bridge toll plaza and you can see how difficult it is for drivers to see if one of those situations where you're coming up on the car in front of you and suddenly you have to break. if those lights just come up on you very quickly. fog advisories on the bay area

bridges, particularly troublesome in the vacaville davis area, according to the chp, visibility at less than 100 feet and the chp also mentioned 580 east being a difficult commute. so if you can hold off on your commute, i'd recommend doing that until a little bit later on in the day. right now live in san francisco, anne makovec, cbs5. and somewhere out there, there is a full moon, believe it or not. >> we just can't see it through all the fog. right. >> that's right. you can't see much of anything this morning. we've seen fog a lot of mornings, but not like this. i've never seen it this foggy when i first walked into work at the bay bridge toll plaza and it's hard to tell where we are this morning. there's no big delays, but take it extra easy through the macarthur maze, very difficult to e see and makes driving conditions super dangerous.

chp issued fog advisories for pretty much every bridge, and we have our clear spots as well. we can see that westbound 580 drive as you make your way through livermore. let's go to our maps, the cartinas bridge, there is a fog advisory, and also mention chp noted that interstate 80 commute from vacaville to davis. and bridges and roadways across the bay area and they go ahead and issue the dense fog advisories, different from the one issued by the national weather service and it is super thick on a lot of roads. even though these are showing up traffic moving at the limit, you will want to take it slow. 18 minutes on westbound 80 from the carkinas bridge to the maize. b.a.r.t.

still on time. ace, muni and weary, so far good on this back to work monday morning and for more on these foggy conditions and a butch of rain on the way, he's -- here's brian. the moisture air in the atmosphere is getting weighted down. we have the fog this morning. remember yesterday it was slow to clear. today it's not going to take as long to clear. in the early going we will have low visibilities but later in the day, mostly sunny skies. mid-60s for the bay area. a notch cooler than it was yesterday and the extended forecast will increase clouds on tuesday night and that was going to lead to rain and wind wednesday, thursday and friday and it looks as if it's going to be wet all the way through the weekend. we'll have more details later in the newscast. americans are expected to shell out more than one billion dollars when they go shopping

than her replacement. but people don't run for office for the money. >> they're doing it because of a variety of factors, including the pursuit of power, the ambition to go to higher places and also of course hopefully public service that they want to give back to their community. >> the california citizens compensation commission ordered the pay cuts and they cut per diem pay by 18%. carbon monoxide sent more than a dozen people to the hospital in san francisco. the fire department was called to 1223 courtland street about last night over a carbon monoxide leak. there were 14 people at the home that were taken to the hospital. they're expected to be okay, but city officials and pg&e are still trying to figure out what caused the problem. >> when we arrived, we checked the residence with our air monitors and we found no sign of carbon monoxide. however, we checked the residence and they had shoddy

showed -- showed signs of carbon monoxide on them. >> it's a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly. they now order carbon monoxide detector in all homes. a fight between teens ended with one boy's father opening fire. randy williams went to the party and shot a 17-year-old boy. witnesses reported hearing at least 6 shot. when police arrived, the teenager was dead. williams was arrested at his home. two women became the latest homicide victims, both shot to death in east oakland early sunday morning. that brings the number of murders this weekend to four and a total of 115 people killed just this year. three people from the bay area are among four killed in a crash near placerville. a prius and a mini van collided head on along highway 50 last

night. a man, woman and child all from san francisco died in the prius, a 4-year-old girl in the van also died. the prius veered into oncoming traffic. it's not clear yet why. 5:09 now, violent protests broke out in bangladesh after a factory fire killed 112 workers there. a lack of emergency exits trapped many inside the building and some of the dead jumped from the upper windows to escape. hundreds of factories have been closed down because of widespread demonstrations. unions in bangladesh have complained about unsafe factors. the company that owns the factory that burned makes clothing for western retail chains like wal-mart. days of violent clashes between supporters and opponents o of president morsi. a teenager was killed and dozens more were injured in damanor yesterday when they

weld we would all show up for work. >> i don't need power ball. i got this traffic gig. it's foggy this morning if you're just waking up, super foggy in fact. i haven't seen it this foggy in some of the bridges for quite a while. this is san jose. we sent photographers out, this is one o of the clear spots. let's go to the map. here's that fog we've been talking about, this is across the golden gate bridge, a little bit slow right now on the approach between 580 and the toll plaza. you can see the headlights there. this is back to work after a while for some folks. if you're heading toward ffo, this is what it looks like on 101. past campbell, it looks okay as far as accidents, no major road work to slow you down.

280 is pretty quiet as well. interstate 80, they have issued a dense fog advisory for the carcinas bridge. particularly when you get a little bit further north heading toward vacaville, davis, cp noticed it's especially thick in spots there. milpitas, 880, coming around that bend, so far so good out toward san jose. that is a check of the time saver traffic. the numbers this morning, we're starting out at least a little bit warmer than we have lately because with the low clouds acts as a blanket, in the low 50s in oakland, and in the headlines we'll be looking at the fog to dissipate a little bit later today. numbers will be in the mid-60s for the most part in this area. but when it starts to rain, it will pour, starting tuesday

night and continuing as far as the eye can seen. the good thing is it does look to be the on and off again variety. and that's good because it gives the streams a chance to drain and get ready for the next round. in places it's clear. if you go on the other side of the coast range, out in livermore, it's clear. san jose it's clear. it's close to the bay where we're getting the fog. 67 at sunnyvale, 64 at half- moon bay. brentwood 68 today. 67 at dublin and 67 at pleasant hill. north bay looks good. 67 for santa rosa and 65 at pataloma. oakland will be up to 66. it's in the extended forecast so we have galliwasps gale -- gale watches posted.

and as we look ahead to next weekend, expect wet let's get the latest on the news. a woman faces charges for riding an endangered mammal. anna was arrested in st. peterburg, she's charged with a second-degree misdemeanor. it bans humors from molesting, harassing or disturbing any manatee. it's been on the endangered list. she says she's new to the state and was not aware of the law. we know identity theft can happen through fishing scams and dumpster diving to find documents. this one's new. it turns out everyone at the macy's thanksgiving day parade in new york had a chance to pick up some confidential information. apparently parade go ors took a closer look at the confetti and were surprised to find social security numbers, names

this morning. good monday morning everyone, november 26th. right after turkey day i'm frank mallicoat. >> and i'm michelle griego. time is 5:30. >> drivers be aware, if you're commuting this morning, a lot of heavy fog around the bay this morning. visibility is especially bad on major bridges. cbs5 reporter, anne makovec is on the embarcadero near the bay bridge with conditions. good morning. >> reporter: good morning very foggy at ground level. that is the bay bridge above me. you can't see it very well because of the fog. it is very heavy right now. you can just see the lights of the bay bridge. this is a warning really to all drivers. we took this video, about 40 minutes ago at the bay bridge toll plaza and you can see difficult for drivers right now. it's one of those situations where you're driving along and suddenly you hit that wall of fog. the chp has issued a fog advisory in fact for most of

toward the bay you'll hit the fog. we start out with the fog, get the sun. numbers in the 60s. right now, readings in the low 40s but look at the golden gate bridge. i hate to steal elizabeth's thunder because that's what she's going to be talking about. we have not seen any big accidents but rain shower traffic cameras are -- our traffic cameras are difficult to see. kind of this blur right now. this is a live look. you can see e a few headlights making they ware toward the pay gate. -- their way toward the pay gate. we sent photographers all around the area. traffic on 280 as you head downtown. downtown is blanketed in the stuff this morning. some of the other traffic cameras nice and clear. obviously that's not the issue right now across the golden gate bridge.

thick fog. visibility is an issue all across the span, especially when you get closer to san francisco. to our maps now, and chp issued dense fog advisories to pretty much every bridge across the bay area and they said visibility was particularly bad toward vacaville, davis up in that area. visibility down to 100 feet or less. it's difficult to see the road signs as you are traveling on any of your major roadways, especially in the east bay, this is southbound 680 through the san ramon valley. that is traffic and weather together. three people from the bay area are among four killed in a crash near placerville. the chp says a prius and a mini van collided head on on highway 50 last night. a man, woman and child all from san francisco died in the prius. a 4-year-old girl died in the

van. it veered into oncoming traffic and is not clear why. 31 people were killed on california streets and highways over the holiday weekend. that's ten more than a year ago. the chp says 21 people in cars were killed in its jurisdiction this year. 13 of those 21 were not wearing seat belts. here in the bay area, 6 people were killed in 5 accidents and there were 224dui arrests. a pilot from nevad o o and his passenger are recovering. the cessna was headed for john wayne airport when it lost power . the plane clipped a fence and flipped over the pilot and passenger crawled out of the wreckage and are list instead fair condition. the cause of the crash is under investigation. 5:35 now, a mystery in san francisco's bernal heights neighborhood, what was the source of carbon monoxide at a home on courtland street.

morning, i really have not seen our traffic camera this thick of a blanket of fog across the bay bridge in quite a while. you can see some delays right now, and a few of those cash lanes, chp issued several dense fog advisories for pretty much all the bridges, including the bay bridge and this is a look at the san mateo bridge. i didn't know what this was. earlier a half hour ago you could see the san mateo bridge just fine. you never know when you're going to hit the thick wall of fog. this is westbound 92. and it is super thick now. look at that as you head out toward the high-rise. the drive time is 15 minutes between hay ward and foster city. take it extra slow. give yourself extra time. there's only one reported accident in the bay area that we're seeing north of the airport, northbound 101 motorcycle accident off to the right hand shoulder.

in show business. they're all aarp members. the sound of gunfire may echo across the run ways in san jose. they will give the airport permission to fire guns to keep birds away from the airfield. they would fire blanks but could use bird shot if the birds don't leave. san jose has had 180 bird strikes in 2009 including some that caused major damage to planes. dozens overbigs that were saved a year ago -- dozens of beagles that were saved a year ago, and they would have been killed had it not been for a group called the beagle freedom project. >> most of the people who adopted from us changed everything about their lifestyles. they stopped purchasing products that were tested on animals. >> i wouldn't want to be locked up in a cage if i was a dog. >> now the dogs and their new families are celebrating life in southern california and some of the adult owners say that
